Studio Sanford Biggers – February 2015 Update

happy black mystery month

“A time comes when silence is betrayal.”
-MLK, 1967-
You ever wonder about all of the American history you missed?
If the names Crispus Attucks, Benjamin Banneker, Shirley Chisholm, Charles Drew, Medgar Evars, Madame C.J. Walker and other fathers and mothers of invention and liberation do not ring a bell, you may have some gaps in your historical knowledge of the US.
And consider that “Black” history includes the Diaspora, bringing Alexandre Dumas, John Michell, Queen Nzinga, Alexander Pushkin, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, and Wangari Maathai into the conversation.
Looks like your gonna need more than 28 days to fill that void. Unfortunately, as subjective as history can be, the erasure or ignorance of it silences crucial conversations.

I hope those of you with a platform from which to speak, continue saying meaningful things.
